Summer Directions:

Take 580 East to 205 East to 5 North. Only stay on 5 north for a few seconds -literally, and exit on 120 east to 99 north. Once on 99 north. Look for hwy 4 East-to Angel's Camp; about 5-10 miles. Head east on 4 all the way to the cabin. Once you are past Arnold, the cabin is approximately 20-25 miles. The landmarks are the Tamarack Resort and Tamarack Pines Inn on your right. Once you pass this landmark, you will crest the hill and turn into dirt road on your left - about 3/10th of a mile.

Follow the dirt road, as you come to a large gray house with a blue roof, take the road to your left. Follow the road for 50 feet and you will see the cabin on your right (brown shingles, green shutters). Turn up towards the cabin and park anywhere.

WINTER DIRECTIONS:

Follow the above directions to the cabin turnout. In the winter you can not drive to the cabin and you will need to park along highway 4. Pull into any open space in the parking area that does not have a no-parking sign. You will want to pull in as far as you can so that the snow plows can still plow the highway.

Please respect the no-parking signs and make sure not to park in a space that has a sign. There are no-parking signs at the cabin (stored in the woodshed passage-way) that you can use to protect your spot for the time that you are at the cabin. You may need to shovel a spot clear for yourself if it has snowed recently and the snow-plow has not cleared the area. Note that the parking area may not be plowed if it has snowed recently. In this event, it will be plowed shortly.

Walking into the Cabin:

The cabin is a 5 minute walk from the highway. Head out the track behind the cars, which should bear left, then right and then straighten out again. Just after this you should see a fairly large gray house on your right, and a track to your left, just before a telephone pole.

If there hasn't been anyone at the cabin recently and there has been a fair amount of snow fall, the track may not be visible in the form of foot prints or ski tracks. But you will see an opening about the width of a fire road which is the driveway in spring and summer directly across from the large gray house heading to the left. This is the track to take.

Take this track left for about 75 feet until you see a brown wooden two-story cabin with green shutters to your right through the trees.

This is the Ross Cabin. Head around the left side of the cabin to either the kitchen door or to the back door of the wood shed to enter. See opening and closing instructions for how to enter the cabin.

To the left is the tool shed, where the shovels are stored. Then to the right the wood shed is visible, which is usually the easiest way to get into the cabin during the winter. Otherwise you can enter through the kitchen door, which is not visible in this picture.
